Why the Amber or Yellow colour?
The amber or yellow safety glass is more commonly used for indoor activities or for low light applications to help enhance contrast, making your surroundings appear to be brighter. Yellow safety glasses block the blue light that may cause haze and is not recommended for bright light conditions or applications where accurate colour recognition is critical. Baseball players, golfers, cyclists, and hunters often prefer yellow and amber tints.
Often in overcast and hazy conditions, the extra water vapour in the air will increase the scattering of blue light. This decreases visual acuity and depth perception. As a result, the eyes must work harder, resulting in eye fatigue and sometimes headaches. Using the yellow and amber tints can reduce the impact of blue light in these conditions, reducing eye fatigue.
The yellow or amber lens is ideal for night vision activities such as driving, as it improves vision clarity without affecting colour distinction.
Yellow tinted lenses also benefit anyone spending a lot of time in front of a computer screen. Computers, game consoles, smartphones, etc., produce a lot of blue light.
Wearing yellow/amber tinted eyewear blocks blue light to help reduce eye fatigue and strain.
More recently, studies show even more uses for lens tinting for blocking the blue light. Turns out, these tints also have potentially significant health benefits.
Did you know there is evidence of the Amber lens helps with insomnia? The b
lue light at night suppresses melatonin and increases alertness; the use of amber-tinted lenses blocks blue light to mitigate these effects.
- Sleep problems – Excessive light suppresses melatonin, especially the blue light from electronics and ambient light. Melatonin, our natural sleep hormone, helps us get to sleep. Wearing lenses that block blue light for an hour before bed may prevent melatonin suppression, allowing individuals to fall asleep faster.
- Bipolar disorder – Preliminary research shows that blocking blue light may help stabilize mood for people suffering from some forms of bipolar disorder.
“…amber colored lenses, which block blue light, can help regulate the mood of those suffering from bipolar disorder, insomnia, sleep deprivation as well as other maladies.” (Mental Benefits of Amber Colored Lenses)
- Macular degeneration – Excessive blue light may cause age-related macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness in the elderly.
“Many people with macular degeneration have reduced color vision and reduced contrast vision. The use of yellow, amber and brown lenses can improve contrast vision and make it easier to see, especially in bright light, natural light or light that comes from bulbs.” (What is Low Vision?)
Scratch Resistance
Polycarbonate lenses are highly resistant to scratching and minor superficial damage but to increase their longevity and efficiency, the lenses are coated using the latest in nano-technology, making them extremely scratch-resistant and resistant to chemicals on the outside. This coating system makes the lenses extremely easy to clean due to the nano-technology's non-stick properties.
IMPACT RESISTANT
Tested to 160P resistance, these glasses are compliant with AS/NZS 1337.1.2010 for Medium Impact Protection. These polycarbonate lenses can certainly take a beating. These curved lenses offer full side protection, unlike the distracting, traditional side shields.
ANTI FOG
The anti-fog coating is a permanent coating even after being repeatedly cleaned. This coating is applied to both the front and back of the lens making it an ideal choice in high humid areas. This coating helps greatly when moving between different temperatures and humidity levels improving the wearer's satisfaction.
UV PROTECTION
Anti UV 380 protection - with such a high grade of UV protection, you can feel protected and assured that your eyes are being well guarded in the toughest of environments. Lenses protect against most UV rays and are tested to 99.9% UV protection.
