Understanding the cause of acne helps to understand how to treat acne.

What is Acne

Acne occurs when the pores of the skin become blocked with oil, dead skin, or bacteria.

Each pore of the skin is the opening to a follicle. The follicle is made up of a hair fibre and a sebaceous (oil) gland. The oil gland releases sebum (oil), which travels up the hair, out of the pore, and onto your skin.

Cystic acne commonly increases in your thirties as this is when the skin is most susceptible to hormonal changes. The hormonal shifts affect the oil glands and sebaceous glands of the skin.

Acne typically appears on your face, forehead, chest, upper back and shoulders because these areas of skin have the most oil (sebaceous) glands. Hair follicles are connected to oil glands.

The follicle wall may bulge and produce a whitehead. Or the plug may be open to the surface and darken, causing a blackhead. A blackhead may look like dirt stuck in pores. But actually the pore is congested with bacteria and oil, which turns brown when it's exposed to the air.

Four main factors cause acne:

  • Excess oil (sebum) production
  • Hair follicles clogged by oil and dead skin cells
  • Bacteria
  • Inflammation

Certain things may trigger or worsen acne:

  • Hormonal changes. Androgens are hormones that increase during puberty and cause the sebaceous glands to enlarge and increase sebum. Hormone changes during midlife, particularly in women, can lead to breakouts too.
  • Certain medications. Examples include drugs containing corticosteroids, testosterone or lithium.
  • Diet. Studies indicate that consuming certain foods — including carbohydrate-rich foods, such as bread, bagels and chips — may worsen acne.
  • Stress. Stress doesn't cause acne, but if you have acne already, stress may make it worse.

How do I get rid of Acne?

Understanding the cause of acne helps to understand how to treat the acne.Topical solutions that can kill the bacteria and unclog the pores is a great place to start for any acne routine. Improving fluid intake and dietary intake can reduce the causes of acne significantly. By drinking more water, can ensure that you won't suffer from severe pimples and acne. The more hydrated the skin, the less your pores will clog.

Acne and skin Blemishes develop in specific zones because of internal issues, which may include high blood pressure, dehydration, and digestive wellbeing, or even as a complaint from another organ in the body, such as the 'angry' liver.

Turmeric works as a skin lightening agent for your skin. The curcumin in it reduces the excess melanin production and lightens your skin tone. Adding turmeric to your skincare routine can brighten your skin tone and reduce any kind of dark spots and pigmentation.  Turmeric prevents skin cells from clumping together and clogging the pores. Since it's antiseptic and antibacterial, it may effectively stop the growth of acne-causing bacteria. Additionally, its anti-inflammatory properties promote quicker healing by calming areas that are already inflamed. Safflower oil has pain relieving effects as well as anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits.  It is often used topically due to its moisturising effects – the oil can help the skin appear smoother and softer.  Safflower oil has been found to be non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog your pores.  Linoleic acid is thought to help maintain the integrity of the outer layer of the skin by preventing flaking. Rosehip oil contains a wealth of essential fatty acids, including linoleic and linolenic acid to help keep cell walls strong so they don’t lose water. The many fatty acids in rosehip oil make it an excellent option for hydrating dry, itchy skin.  Rosehip oil is a natural exfoliation to help reduce dullness leaving the skin glowing and vibrant.  Vitamin A, or retinol, in rosehip oil, encourages skin cell turnover and is essential for the production of collagen.  Rosehip has also been shown to inhibit the creation of MMP-1, an enzyme that breaks down collagen in the body, resulting in increased skin elasticity.    The mighty catechins in Japanese green tea have an antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antibiotic effect, which helps fight acne and unclog pores.  It reduces sebum secretion which can lead to acne.
